Homes with new ADUs.
Every house in Portland is allowed to have an Accessory Dwelling Unit on it. The ADU can be in the basement, in the attic, attached to the house or detached. The four ADUs I have built recently (and own with a partner) are all 2 bedroom units of 800 square feet. They rent for about $1,900 each. It is not hard to build an ADU that gives positive cash flow the first month it is occupied. I have a team of professionals who make it easy.

My investment partner, Gena Hutton, and I developed this 19-unit, 56-bedroom apartment building one block from the University of Oregon campus. We developed it with partners, kept it for five years and sold it in 2014.
